Work environment

The role and mandate of the Technical Investigation Services Responsibility Center is to ensure the availability of state-of-the-art technological tools and procedures that can assist and support the investigation of criminal activity by operational sections in the RCMP and other law enforcement agencies.

Technical Investigative Services (TIS) is looking for an electrical engineer to contribute to our role and mandate. The duties and work effort include research, development and support of custom mechanical, electronic, and software tools and techniques in support of technical investigations related to wireless technologies, electronic hardware, mechanical devices and vehicle technologies.

The position is located at 1426 St. Joseph Boulevard, Orleans, Ontario and due to the nature of the position, employees are required to work on site a minimum of 3 days up to full-time in support of our role and mandate.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one position on an indeterminate basis, with a linguistic profile of English Essential and an Enhanced Reliability Status with Top Secret security clearance.

A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP in the National Capital Region on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, geological engineering, naval architecture or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Recent* experience in software design and debugging for electronic hardware design using programming and scripting languages.
Recent* experience in embedded Linux system programming, kernel development and configuration.
Recent* experience in the production of technical documentation.
Recent* working experience in radio frequency (RF) and wireless technologies.

A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Computer Engineering or Software Engineering.

Degree equivalency

Recent* experience working in a research and development environment.

Experience in working with database such as MySQL, SQLite3, etc.
Experience in socket programming.
Experience in hardware design, debugging and testing.

Recent* experience programming microcontroller/microprocessor interfaces and peripherals.
