Duties

As a Business Officer, you will have an opportunity to work with our network of economic partners and communities. You will evaluate economic development proposals and funding applications. You will be part of exciting and new economic development initiatives that support job creation and community economic diversification.

Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan) supports economic growth through 4 key roles:
✔️Investor – create jobs and growth through investments and targeted initiatives using funding programs for businesses, communities, and organizations;
✔️Pathfinder – help businesses and communities navigate federal economic and job creation programs and services;
✔️Convenor – connect key economic stakeholders with federal departments and other partners, to drive collaboration, innovation, and growth; and
✔️Advisor – provide place-based advice and economic expertise to assist clients and partners, to inform decisions for clients and the department, and to advocate for Prairie interests in national policy discussions.

At PrairiesCan, we enjoy a hybrid work model. These positions are not eligible for 100% remote work.
PrairiesCan offices are open environments with well-regulated air quality, ergonomic sit/stand workstations, and a combination of natural and fluorescent lighting. The physical demands of this position include spending a significant amount of time working on a computer, and reading documents. This role may also involve meeting with stakeholders virtually by video and telephone, and in-person.

This is an anticipatory process to develop a pool of qualified Business Officers for future temporary or indeterminate (i.e., permanent) opportunities.

The pool of qualified candidates may be used to staff future vacancies with various tenures, work locations, language requirements and conditions of employment.

Education:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in a field relevant to the position or a combination of education, training, and professional experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
• Experience developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including businesses, community leaders, or government departments.
• Experience developing or evaluating economic development project proposals, applications for funding, or business plans.
• Experience conducting economic development research and presenting findings to internal stakeholders or external clients.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
• Graduation with a master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in Economics, Business, Finance, Public Administration or other field relevant to the position being staffed.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
• Engaging with diverse stakeholders including community groups, businesses, not-for-profit organizations, municipalities, and Indigenous communities
• Assessing applications for grants and contributions programs
• Monitoring projects, contracts, and loans
• Using stakeholder management systems and software applications
