Intent of the process

The immediate intent of this process is to staff 1 or more positions within Transport Canada’s Prairie and Northern Region.

A pool of qualified and/or partially qualified candidates may be established within Transport Canada and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (including indeterminate / term / assignment / Secondment/ acting/ deployment) and/or various linguistic requirements and/or various security profiles.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

ED: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution OR an acceptable combination* of education and experience relevant to the position.

*Acceptable combination is defined as successful completion of a post-secondary educational program from a recognized post-secondary institution AND a minimum of two (2) years of regulatory compliance work experience with municipal, federal or provincial government departments or agencies – including, but not limited to, municipal or provincial police, fisheries, environment and natural resources, Transport Canada, Canada Border Services Agency, Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Canadian Coast Guard, Parks Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, or Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Degree equivalency

EX1: Significant* and recent* experience in conducting inspections or investigations
EX2: Significant* and recent* experience in interpreting and applying acts & regulations
EX3: Significant* and recent* experience in building relationships with stakeholders including other government organizations/agencies or non-government organizations and the public to provide client service.

*Significant is defined as experience normally acquired over a period of at least two (2) years and as a core part of the work responsibilities.
* Recent experience is defined as experience normally acquired over the past five (5) years.

AEX1: Experience conducting enforcement activities in support of legislation
AEX2: Experience in marine navigation operating recreational, pleasure, and/or commercial vessels.
AEX3: Experience in marine engineering construction methodology
AEX4: Experience in interpreting engineering plans
AEX5: Experience with surveying
AEX6: Experience in cartographic (map & chart) interpretation / use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
AEX7: Experience with surface water hydrology & related geophysical processes
AEX8: Experience in conducting site inspections that involve data collection and recording information

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability and willingness to travel by all modes of transportation, as required
Ability and willingness to travel for extended periods of time regionally or nationally, as required
Ability and willingness to work alone in the field, as required
Ability and willingness to work in isolated or remote locations, for extended periods of time, as required
Ability and willingness to utilize personal protective equipment in compliance with safety regulations
Ability and willingness to work overtime and/or irregular hours on short notice, as required

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Possession of a valid provincial or territorial driver’s license
Possession of a Pleasure Craft Operators card (PCOC)

ASSESSMENT – REFERENCE CHECKS
References must be available, have an in-depth knowledge of your work/projects, and must be able to answer specific questions pertaining to your experience, achievements and strengths.

References that are not reachable and/or not available are lowering the candidates’ chances to be found fully qualified and be considered for appointment. When providing names of references, it is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure they are available to respond in a timely manner.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
