Duties

• Enhance the Correctional Service Canada’s (CSC) ability to move into integrated delivery of accredited quality health services by the implementation of an effective Quality Improvement (QI) Program. Ensures the development and provision of quality improvement in the institutional health service environment, at one or more sites, by advising, developing, implementing and interpreting various quality improvement and accreditation strategies, initiatives and activities for inmates, institutional employees, and the institutional management team.
• Contributes to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of CSC policies, the National Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QIPS) Program and initiatives for the effective delivery of quality health services for the institution.
• Coordinates the activities of the institutional Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Committee and liaises with the Region’s Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Committee to ensure consistency; liaises with other stakeholders including hospitals, universities, and community health organizations regarding accreditation, quality improvement and patient safety programs and the sharing of related best practices.
• Coordinates the quality improvement, performance measurement and accreditation processes ensuring they support the strategic plan and accountability framework of the facility by providing the institutional management team and health service staff with informed expert advice in the interpretation of accreditation standards and quality improvement theories.
• Guide the institution’s health care facility through the accreditation process by promoting, coordinating and managing accreditation and performance assurance activities for scheduled accreditation review.
• Assists with the development of policies, procedures, standards, standard operating procedures and guidelines related to services that contribute to the overall efficacy and efficiency of the organization and that conform to the community and professional standards of practice and accreditation requirements.
• Supports the development of and delivers quality improvement, patient safety and accreditation awareness, education and training programs for health services staff at one or more institutions.
• Verifies and ensures that the type, quality, integrity and consistency of information and statistical data used for managerial, operational, and decision-making purposes reflects CSC, Accreditation Canada, and regulatory standards.
• Applies problem solving skills to analyze problems and issues related to quality assurance.
• Develops appropriate processes and organizes teams to implement quality improvement solutions.
• Provides the institutional health service perspective at regional meetings regarding quality improvement and accreditation.
