Work environment

Real Property, Safety & Security (RPSS) is one of three real property custodians within Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) administering the majority of DFO real property assets, including office and special purpose buildings, such as Canadian Coast Guard bases, light stations, hatcheries, laboratories and a number of smaller facilities. The availability of these facilities, along with Public Services and Procurement Canada-provided leased inventory, are crucial for departmental sectors to deliver their mandated programs.

The branch provides leadership and expertise in real property planning, strategic investment, divestiture, infrastructure life cycle management, facilities maintenance, environmental management, and employee safety and security advisory services. Regardless of the position to be staffed, we are looking for self-starters who are passionate about service excellence and eager to assist our clients in meeting their objectives.

EDUCATION:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, OR
• An acceptable combination of education, training, or experience relevant to the position*
*Relevant experience would be directly related to the key duties of the position. Training relevant to the position would be defined as any formal, post-secondary training from a community college, university, or professional organization directly related to the key duties of the position. This may include formal training in real property management, safety or security.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience providing advice and guidance to senior management on complex* issues
• Experience managing human and financial resources
• Experience in managing a program or multi-faceted project
• Experience in planning and organizing complex* departmental/branch activities, or rolling out initiatives

*Complex refers to projects that include ambiguity or uncertainty and are often surrounded with unpredictability. Other indicators of a complex project include: involvement of multiple teams and/or stakeholders, numerous moving parts, strict project timelines and budget restraints.

• Experience in leading audits and/or investigations relating to occupational health and safety and/or security issues
