Duties

The Electronic Evidence Unit (“EEU”) is responsible for the collection and processing of electronic evidence pursuant to Competition Bureau investigations under the Competition Act. Members of the EEU also provide advice and guidance on matters related to electronic evidence to Directors, Case Investigators, Counsel, and external parties.

Duties will include:
• Participating in the execution of search warrants.
• Using digital forensic techniques to process seized evidence.
• Developing policy / procedures related to the duties of the EEU.
• Researching and developing new tools and techniques to facilitate the collection of electronic evidence.

Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to staff three positions on an indeterminate basis. A pool of qualified candidates may be established to staff similar positions with various language requirements and various tenures (indeterminate, term, deployment, acting, secondment or assignment) within Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Notes:
Indeterminate incumbents of positions in the CO group on June 21, 2021, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standards based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the CO group.

At the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience, that is comparable to a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization relevant to the work to be performed, may serve as an alternative to meet the minimum education standard. Whenever the minimum education standard is met through this alternative, it is met only for the position being staffed, and candidates must be re-assessed for future appointments or deployments where the manager has decided to use this alternative.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in analysing or investigating; technical, legal, financial or business information stored on computer systems.

• Experience in the development of technical procedures or plans.

• Experience in installing computer components, operating systems and software

• *Significant experience enforcing regulatory or statutory requirements.

•**Recent and *significant experience using forensic computing tools.

•*Significant experience administering or query writing for MSSQL or MYSQL databases.

•**Recent and *significant experience administering enterprise email infrastructure.

•**Recent and *significant experience administering virtual networks.

•**Recent and *significant experience administering Business / Enterprise Google Workspace or Business / Enterprise Microsoft M365.

Definition:
*Significant experience means the depth of experience that would normally be acquired as part of your daily responsibilities in this field over a period of at least two years.
**Recent experience means within the last 3 years
