Work environment

This job requires significant decision making and independent action, managing the day to day tasks related to the RCMP Court files presented to the Crown Prosecutors and the Provincial Court, in addition to managing the existing files currently before the courts.

An ideal candidate for this role, would be someone who understands the Criminal Code, Provincial and Federal Statutes, Youth Criminal Justice Act, in order to be able to discuss Court files with the Crown, defense counsel, witnesses and accused persons if necessary.

The ability to communicate effectively, attention to detail and strong organizational skills is a must for this position.

Intent of the process

This selection process may be used to staff one indeterminate vacancy.

A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff AS-03/ SPS-ADM-03 positions within the RCMP on an indeterminate or specified period basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

EDUCATION:

A secondary school diploma (High School) or an acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience in a field relevant to the work to be performed.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

E1. Recent* and significant** experience working with key stakeholder partners in the justice system. (ie. lawyers, court officials, correction officials, sheriff officials, probation officers).

E2. Recent* and significant** experience in the research, interpretation, or application of legislation related to the Criminal Code, Provincial and Federal Statutes, or Youth Criminal Justice Act.

*Recent is defined as duties being performed within the last five years.
**Significant is defined as a depth and breadth of experience normally acquired with having performed a broad range of duties for a minimum of one (1) year.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Successful candidates will require a valid RCMP Enhanced Reliability Status security clearance prior to appointment and throughout the tenure of their employment. The process to obtain RCMP security clearance involves a security/reliability interview and a field investigation regarding matters of criminal activity which includes reference checks, verification of credit/financial status, education, employment, etc. As such, the process may take several weeks or months to complete.

To be granted RCMP security clearance and to maintain the ethical standards of the RCMP, candidates must not be, or have been, involved in certain criminal activities*, have been dishonourably discharged, have pending personal bankruptcies, etc. For additional information and a complete list of activities, please visithttp://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/en/qualifications-and-requirements and read the section titled “To apply as a police officer, you must not have”, as well as the applicable considerations.
