Duties

↪ Certifying airworthiness of airframe, piston engines, electrical systems and propellers.
↪ Troubleshooting aircraft structural, mechanical and electrical systems to identify problems.
↪ Adjusting and repairing systems according to specifications, technical drawings, manuals, and established procedures.
↪ Repairing aircraft structural, mechanical and electrical systems.
↪ Installing and repairing glider fuselage and flight control fabric coverings.
↪ Installing or modifying aircraft engines, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, flight control, and fuel systems.
↪ Dismantling airframes, aircraft engines or other aircraft systems for repair, overhaul, inspection and reassembly.
↪ Supervising, performing and documenting all aircraft maintenance.
↪ Weighing aircraft and calculating weight and balance data which is used by pilots for safe loading of aircraft before flight.

Intent of the process

The initial intent of this process is to offer two indeterminate, English essential positions located in Comox, BC.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and used to staff identical or similar positions within the Department of National Defence.

EDUCATION:
A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (See Note).

Note:

• A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma;

• An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:

Possession of a valid and current Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) License M1 category issued by Transport Canada.

EXPERIENCE:

EX1. Experience in compiling and maintaining aircraft logbooks and technical records.

EX2. Experience in the repair and maintenance of fixed wing aircraft.

EX3. Experience in the repair and maintenance of aircraft piston engines.

EX4. Experience in analyzing, evaluation, and presenting solutions to aircraft technical issues.

EX5. Experience* in mentoring, coaching, or supervising a team.

*Both formal and informal experience will be considered. Informal experience may include roles, responsibilities, or activities where an individual is providing guidance, expertise, or training to staff in an organization, without necessarily being in a position of formal authority.
