Duties
We are seeking a Species at Risk Biologist. This is not your typical field biologist position!

The duties of this position include:
• Providing coordination and implementation of selected species obligations, as identified by the Species at Risk Act, in conjunction with regional land claim obligations.
• Establishing, maintaining and participating in partnerships, committees and working groups with Indigenous organizations, government and non-government organizations on initiatives related to Species at Risk.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff 1 indeterminate, English essential position in Whitehorse, Yukon.

A pool of qualified candidates may be created to staff similar positions, with various tenures (indeterminate, specified period, deployment, assignment, secondment, acting, acting extensions), language requirements and profiles, and conditions of employment across Canada.

Northern Allowances (rates and conditions may change):

Education:

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Note: The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

• EX1 - Experience working on environmental protection or wildlife issues.
• EX2 - Experience leading or participating on teams or partnerships with at least two of the following groups: Indigenous people, government, regulators, environmental non-government organizations or industry.
• EX3 - Experience analyzing and interpreting information on ecosystems, habitats or species.

Education:

Graduation with an advanced degree (Masters, Doctorate) from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

• AEX1 - Experience communicating in an Indigenous language of the Yukon, Northwest Territories, or Nunavut.
• AEX2 - Experience working effectively with Indigenous communities in northern Canada.
• AEX3 - Experience working in Nunavut (only for positions located in Iqaluit).
• AEX4 - Experience supervising or mentoring staff.
• AEX5 - Experience working on caribou research or management.
