What is the Policy Officer Recruitment Programme (PORP)?
The PORP is a three-year on-the-job professional development programme designed to recruit and develop talented individuals to meet the unique demands of the defence policy environment and become well-rounded public servants. In addition to three one-year assignments across the Policy Group, a practical, three-year curriculum will round-out your academic experience and help you hone your skills in areas like writing in a professional context, strategic thinking, and negotiation skills.

A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process and may be used to staff identical or similar positions at the Department of National Defence.

EDUCATION:
ED1: Graduation* with a Master's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field related to the duties of the position**, and/or a Juris Doctor.
AND
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization*** in economics, sociology or statistics.
*Candidates who are in the process of completing their Masters degree and/or Juris Doctor by 31 July 2024 may be screened in but they would not be able to be appointed until successful completion of Masters degree and/or Juris Doctor.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability and willingness to travel, including to deployed Canadian Armed Forces operations.
Ability and willingness to work overtime frequently and on short notice.

Secret security clearance.
Top Secret clearance.
Willingness to be assigned to various divisions in the organization based on operational requirements and developmental needs.
