The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) is a federal department responsible to ensure the integrity and marketability of grain for the domestic and international grain trade, from producer to global customer.
The CGC is a significant part of Canada’s dynamic and diverse agriculture sector. We regulate grain handling in Canada, set grain standards and conduct research on grain. At the CGC we strive to live our values of Excellence, Integrity, Respect and Accountability.

We currently have an immediate need to staff one indeterminate position (Supervisor, Sample Handling), and are also completing assessments to potentially staff a second anticipatory indeterminate position (Supervisor Protein and Analytical Services).
This selection process may be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates to staff similar positions, at the same group and level, with various security requirements, various tenures (indeterminate, specified period, deployment, acting, casual employment, part-time worker, assignment and secondment) and with various linguistic profiles.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
EXPERIENCE:
-Experience in supervising technical staff, including training and developing staff, evaluating work performance, and providing feedback.
-Experience in coordinating the work of technical staff, in the conduct of analytical, experiment or investigative technical scientific activities relating the measurement of quality parameters.
-Experience in laboratory quality management systems such as ISO 17025 documentation, procedures and audits.
-Experience troubleshooting and resolving equipment and operational problems.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
Asset qualifications are other criteria that may be required for the job. This does not mean that you must have all these qualifications, but they may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed.
EXPERIENCE:
-Experience in sampling techniques used to prepare laboratory test samples.
-Experience in protein analysis methods example near infrared and/or combustion nitrogen analysis and/or kjeldahl.
-Experience providing operational support and recommendations to management on administrative functions (i.e. staffing, performance management, leave reporting, procurement, facilities, budgeting, reporting).
-Experience in quality control principles and procedures such as the use of control charts and reference materials.

-Ability and willingness to be exposed to and work with hazardous chemicals and laboratory equipment and to adhere to laboratory safety standards and procedures;

-Ability and willingness to be exposed to grain and flour dust;
-Known allergies must be controlled through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication, and must not impinge upon the work to be performed;
-Availability and willingness to work overtime as required;
-Ability to move and/or lift items (up to 20 kg).
