As our Junior Communications Officer, you will be responsible for assisting in the development and preparation of a variety of communications products and supporting the team in providing communications services to internal clients. You will gain experience in a broad range of communications activities; support the implementation of communications plans; support the planning of events and dignitary trips; engage in media relations; and more.

Immediate need: One (1) full-time indeterminate position at Yellowknife, NT.
This process will be used to fill current vacancies and to establish a pool of qualified candidates for future opportunities (Deployment, Assignment, Secondment, Acting, Term or Indeterminate) in Northwest Territories only, with various security requirements (reliability or secret).

EDUCATION:
A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
For purposes of this particular process, an acceptable combination of education, training and experience is defined as:
• A minimum of high school education; and
• A minimum of 2 years of experience directly related to the position.
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience writing and editing a variety of communications products such as news releases, backgrounders, media advisories, talking points, brochures, articles or briefing material.
• Experience contributing to communications plans or projects.
• Experience conducting research.
• Experience using common computer software systems, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.

The following criteria are not required for the appointment, but preference may be given to candidates who possess these asset qualifications.
ASSET EDUCATION:
A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution specializing in communications, public relations/public affairs, business administration, journalism, or mass media.
ASSET EXPERIENCE:
Experience working in Canada’s North.
Experience in working on Indigenous and Northern files or projects.
ASSET KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of Northern media and media relations strategies.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Willing and able to travel, potentially to remote areas.
• Willing and able to work overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and territorial/provincial holidays.
