Duties

The position will be considered the subject matter expert on many National Programs such as Lead Safety, Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection and Laser Safety as well as other duties as it relates to industrial and occupational hygiene. Work environment

Our team is located at 73 Leikin Drive in Ottawa, Ontario (Barrhaven), in a modern building with plenty of free parking, convenient access to bus routes immediately outside of the building, free use of a gym, and a cafeteria onsite.

Our team is currently working under a hybrid work schedule. The selected candidate will be required to report to the workplace 3 days per week. Virtual employment will not be considered.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one position on an indeterminate basis, with a linguistic profile of Bilingual - Non-Imperative (BBB/BBB) and a Secret security clearance.

A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP in the National Capital Region on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with a degree from a recognized Canadian University with acceptable specialization in occupational health, industrial hygiene, health physics, biological or chemical sciences, safety engineering or any other field relevant to the work to be performed

Degree equivalency

Certification as a Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is required

Recent* and significant** experience developing, implementing, monitoring and coordinating elements of a comprehensive occupational health and safety program
Recent* and significant** experience conducting assessments of workplace and operational environments, such as: identification and evaluation of hazards and making recommendations utilizing the hierarch of safety controls
Recent* and Significant experience** developing, implementing and monitoring a Respiratory Protection Program

Recent* is defined as three cumulative years in the last five years.
Significant** refers to the depth and breadth of experience associated with the performance of a broad range of related activities, which were the candidate’s primary work responsibilities. It will be assessed based on the scope, the complexity and the diversity of the work performed.

Note: Experience as a member of an occupational health and safety committee alone is insufficient.

Professional designation (and member in good standing) of Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)

Experience working with or for a Federal Government Organization in a
Health and Safety capacity.
Experience in the application of project management principles and practices
Experience in the development, implementation and monitoring of an asbestos management program and/or a lead safety program

Knowledge of building maintenance/asset management as it pertains to health and safety

Willingness and ability to occasionally work irregular hours, overtime, sometimes on short notice

Conditions of employment

Secret security clearance - All applicants for positions within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be subject to a thorough security clearance process which includes an interview wherein questions may include (but not limited to), reference checks, previous employment, on-line activities, credit checks, alcohol and/or drug use.

Must travel for work and training purposes via various modes of transportation
Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to personal flotation devices, protective footwear, respiratory protection and fall protection equipment. Some of these items may be heavy or cumbersome.
Possession of a valid Provincial Driver’s Licence
