The workplace is Francophone and is located at the Maurice Lamontagne Institute in Mont-Joli, Quebec. Hybrid work arrangements may be discussed depending on the position to be filled, but there is a minimum requirement for employees to be present on a weekly basis in the office. Exclusive teleworking mode will not be permitted.
The purpose of this selection process is to staff 2 term BI-02 position. A pool of qualified candidates will be established and used to fill similar positions with various tenures, security profiles and linguistic requirements within Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Quebec region.

📚 EDUCATION
ED1: A degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization biological sciences, natural sciences, physics, applied sciences, or in a field relevant to the position.

📝 EXPERIENCE
EX1: At least one year of experience conducting research projects and writing scientific reports.
EX2: Experience in statistical analysis of varied ecological data .
EX3: Experience using programming language for quantitative analysis of biological or other data (e.g., R, JAGS, STAN, TMB, Matlab, Python).
📚 EDUCATION (ASSETS)
AED1: Post-graduate diploma with specialization in a field relevant to the position.
AED2: University diploma in statistics or in a related field.
📝 EXPERIENCE (ASSETS)
AEX1: Experience publishing in scientific journals with peer-review process, as a first author in one of the following fields: habitat selection, predator-prey relationships, population dynamics, spatial analysis of movement data, diet modeling using stable isotopes or other chemical tracers; stock assessment, or other related fields.
AEX2: Experience in programming using statistical programs such as R, JAGS, STAN, TMB, Mathlab, Python.
AEX3: Experience in quantitative analysis of complex data from marine mammals
AEX4: Experience in quantitative analysis of complex data from aquatic species, other than marine mammals.
AEX5: Experience in the development, validation, documenting, maintenance, or management of databases.
AEX6: Experience in population dynamics modeling.
AEX7: Experience using Bayesian inference approaches for the analysis of complex ecological data.
AEX8: Experience in spatial distribution and habitat selection modeling.
AEX9: Experience in processing survey data using distance sampling approaches, or other abundance estimation approaches.
AEX10: Experience in quantitative analysis of complex data related to predator-prey relationships.

AEX13: Experience in the analysis of acoustic data.
AEX14: Experience conducting scientific work from small vessels, aircraft, or larger vessels.

❗ OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The following requirements may apply for some positions:
• Have completed or accept to successfully complete a course on «Experimental Fish» in accordance with certification by the Animal Welfare Committee of the Maurice Lamontagne Institute, Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
• Have completed or accept to successfully complete a theoretical and practical course for driving heavy vehicle or towing boats «Conformity program for drivers at Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
• Have completed or accept to successfully complete a course to obtain a permit for detaining and acquiring fire arms.
• Accept and be capable of using firearms with the aim of killing marine mammals as part of sampling programs.
Reliability Status security clearance
Depending on the position to fill :
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Regular medical fitness assessment.
• Accept and be able to travel and to work outside of normal working hours.
• Accept and be able to work at sea or in the field in remote or isolated environments and under primitive conditions (e.g. camping) for periods of 3 days up to 6 consecutive weeks, and for periods that could exceed 10 weeks per year.
• Accept and be qualified to operate small vessels in accordance with certification by Transport Canada, or accept to successfully complete the theoretical and practical training to obtain this certificate.
