Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to fill a full-time term position for 2 years.

A pool of (fully or partially qualified) candidates may be established through this process to staff with identical or similar positions within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures, various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC,CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education :
A Masters degree in the natural sciences or forestry from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
• Recent experience (i.e., within the last 2 years) in co-designing forestry or natural sciences related research projects in collaboration with government or industry or academic scientists.
• Experience independently collecting, statistically analyzing, and interpreting scientific data.
• Experience using ArcGIS and programming R Statistical Software to generate and interpret publication-quality outputs.

Information on language requirements

Knowledge:
• Knowledge of common forest insect and plant species found in both natural and disturbed boreal ecosystems.
• Knowledge of forest health issues in boreal forests.
• Knowledge of univariate, multivariate, and ordination-based statistical analyses, including for community-type data.
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety priorities and processes in field and laboratory-based forestry or natural-sciences research.

Abilities:
• Ability to communicate scientific research results effectively in writing.
• Ability to communicate scientific research results effectively orally.
• Ability to deploy and maintain field equipment to monitor forest disturbances and their impact on vegetation.
