Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) is the Federal department responsible for working with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples to improve their access to high quality services. Our vision is to support and empower Indigenous peoples to independently deliver services and address the socio-economic conditions in their communities.
The primary operations of Indigenous Services Canada, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch in Alberta are located in Edmonton. Travel opportunities throughout Alberta may exist depending on the role. The work performed can be fast paced and demanding, but also very rewarding.
The First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) supports the delivery of public health and health promotion services on-reserve and in Inuit communities. It also provides drug, dental and ancillary health services to First Nations and Inuit peoples regardless of residence. The Branch also provides primary care services on reserve in remote and isolated areas, where there are no provincial services readily available.
These positions may be staffed on a permanent (appointment or deployment) or temporary basis (term, acting, assignment or secondment).
A pool of qualified or partially assessed candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level with various language requirements, various security requirements, various conditions of employment, various tenures (acting, assignment/secondment, deployment, term and/or indeterminate), and in various locations within Indigenous Services Canada, Alberta region.

Asset Education:
1. Successful completion of two years or more of a post-secondary educational program or an equivalent combination of education and experience which could include completion of training and/or courses related to working with First Nations and/or health programs and services.
Asset Experience:
1. Experience living and/or working in a First Nations community/Metis Settlement and/or for an Indigenous organization. (*Please note that experience may be gained in a variety of settings, including but not limited to: participating in a community initiative, project team, volunteer setting, committee, school, etc.).
2. Experience supporting delivery of social or health programs or services.
3. Experience in financial management (i.e. management of program funding, expenditures, audits, program allocations or forecasting) which could include: monitoring contracts, grants, contribution agreements, or funding arrangements.
Asset Knowledge:
1. Knowledge and understanding of key policy documents related to Indigenous Peoples in Canada including but not limited to the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Final Report and the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
2. Knowledge of Treaty 6, 7 and/or 8 rights, principles and relationships.
Asset Abilities & Skills:
1. Ability to speak an Indigenous language commonly spoken in Alberta.
