Duties

As a Junior Economist focusing on Fisheries and Marine Issues, you will be an integral part of our dynamic team, contributing to research and analysis aimed at sustainable and responsible management of marine resources. You will work closely with senior economists to support various projects related to fisheries, aquaculture, and marine conservation. Your responsibilities will include data collection and analysis, supporting and conducting analysis to identify trends & derive insight, preparing reports summarizing research findings, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and staying updated on fisheries economics and analytical tools through continuous learning and professional development.

Intent of the process

The positions to be staffed are English essential and the intent is to staff one position per group and level on an indeterminate basis in Ottawa, ON and the positions in Vancouver, BC are anticipatory at this time. However, a pool of qualified persons resulting from this process may be used to fill similar positions with various linguistic profiles, tenures and security requirements within Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

ED1. Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.

Notes:
Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXP1 - Experience* conducting economic, socio-economic or statistical research and analysis;

*Experience is defined as experience associated with the performance of a number of activities in a work and/or academic setting. For the EC4 stream, some experience in a professional work setting is required, outside of academia.

EXP2 - Experience in drafting and editing a variety of communications documents such as briefing notes, technical documents, or presentations intended for subject matter expert and non-expert audiences;

EXP3 - Experience representing an organization at meetings, committees or working groups.

ASSET EDUCATION
AED1 - Graduation with a Masters or PhD degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field relevant to the position, such as economics, statistics, environmental studies, or natural resource management.

AEXP1 - Experience in conducting economic, socio-economic or statistical analysis or research in the areas of environment, natural resources, trade, or sustainable development.
