Duties

The Bridge Operator will be responsible of
- Enforcing navigation regulations of the canal and operating the bridge as per training and operational procedures
- Keeping records of bridge operation and vessel traffic
- Conducting a inspection at the start of every shift of all operational controls within the control room, overall site inspection of structure
- Drafting minor reports for accidents, incidents, complaints and delays in the bridge log book
- Escorting contractors throughout the site including at heights and in confined spaces
- General cleaning of grounds and buildings
- Maintaining and servicing of all tools, machinery and equipment
- Maintaining surveillance of marine traffic, vehicular and pedestrian traffic related to the lift bridge
- Follow all safety protocals and departmental regulations in the performance of their duties

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

✔ Must work at heights above water, in high risk conditions, and in inclement weather. Including physical functions such as on feet for long periods of time, up and down ladders, lifting up to 50lbs and bending repeatedly.
✔ During the operational season of the bridge, shift work (12 hours rotation) is mandatory
✔ Willing and able to work overtime as needed
✔ Possess a valid drivers licence
✔ Pass and hold Category 3 medical exam
