Duties

Under the direction of the Greenhouse Operations manager/ Lead Supervisor of the Greenhouse, the Greenhouse and Growth Chambers worker coordinates, implements and maintains agricultural operations in greenhouses or growth chambers of the Harrow Research and Development Centre.

The Worker cares for plants and operates equipment in a greenhouse or growth chamber and provides routine maintenance as needed. The Worker is part of a dynamic and diversified team that supports innovative agricultural research programs focusing on a broad range of topics, such as Integrated Pest Management (IPM), crop breeding and genomics, plant physiology, plant pathology, pesticide minor use (PMU) and Canadian Clonal Gene bank (CCGB).

Duties include:
• Plant care (seeding, watering, fertilizing, staking and tying, layering, monitoring diseases and pests, IPM, harvesting, etc.)
• Monitoring and adjusting environmental parameters
• Application of biological control agents and chemical pesticides
• Cleaning and disinfecting growth cabinets and greenhouses
• Preparing growing mediums and potting
• General housekeeping
• Performing preventive and minor repairs on equipment
• Use of horticulture equipment
• Assisting in research experiments
• Other duties

Work environment

This is an ON-SITE Greenhouse & Growth Chamber worker position with occasional outdoor work duties supporting the various research programs as a part of Greenhouse Crew located at the Harrow Research and Development Centre (in Harrow, Ontario).

Usual Hours of Work: 8:00 to 4:30 Monday to Friday (may change in summer months - compensated overtime may be required).

Intent of the process

We are seeking to fill up to three, part-time or full time CASUAL (90-working-day) contracts with start dates as soon as possible (or as soon as Human Resources documents can be completed).

This process is for casual employment only which is a temporary employment of 90 workings days or less in a calendar year.

The purpose of this poster is to create and maintain a continuous-intake inventory of résumés.

Applications will be pulled from the inventory on a regular basis in order to fill immediate needs.
