Duties

Stream 1: Compliance & Enforcement (C&E)
Compliance Specialists (GT-04) carry out C&E activities under the Oceans Act, Canada Shipping Act (CSA), and Wrecked Abandoned or Hazardous Vessels Act (WAHVA). Including investigation of ownership, collection of evidence and samples, generation of cases, support in the issuance of notices, issuance of directions, and Administrative Monetary Penalties. Document cases and conduct field activities.

Stream 2: Incident Management (IM)
IM Response Specialists (GT-04) carry out duties including support for responses through the provision of the Incident Command System (ICS) as part of a regional Team. The role also completes multi mission readiness activities, such as continuous improvement, exercise planning, Safety Management System (SMS), ICS, and project assignments.

IM Senior Response Officers (GT-05) carry out duties including support for responses through provision of the ICS. The role completes multi mission readiness activities, leadership of continuous improvement, exercise planning, SMS, ICS, project assignments, and provide human and financial resource supervision.

Stream 3: Marine Environmental and Hazardous Response (MEHR)
Response Specialists (GT-04) carry out response duties including response activities in the field, preparedness and readiness activities, the provision of training to internal and external partners, operational support activities, and administrative duties.

Senior Response Officers (GT-05) carry out response duties including environmental emergency management activities, response activities in the field, preparedness and readiness activities, leading the training of internal and external partners, operational support activities, and administrative duties.

Stream 4: Search and Rescue (SAR)
SAR Program Officers (GT-04) carry out emergency SAR training, liaison, exercising and support to response duties. Including maintaining vessels and vehicles and administrative duties including human resource (HR) and financial management. Respond to SAR and emergency response activities when operating in the field.

Senior SAR Program Officers (GT-05) carry out emergency SAR training, liaison, exercising and support to response duties. Including maintaining vessels and vehicles and administrative duties including HR and financial management. Respond to SAR and emergency response activities. Complete reports and assessments for CCG senior management.

Stream 5: Regional Operations Centre (ROC)
ROC Operations Officer (GT-05)
The ROC are 24/7 multi-functional centres, supporting all CCG programs. Responsible for the planning, deployment and tracking of resources for senior regional management and external clients, facilitating delivery of CCG, Science, Fisheries Conservation and Protection, and other government departments. Maintain emergency preparedness, readiness and initial response leadership for the ROC Emergency Ops Centre.

Specialists and Response/Program Officers carry out duties in the marine environment as part of CCG's federal mandate.

Conditions of employment

• Travel on various means of transport including ships, small vessels and aircraft to remote locations and abroad, knowing that such travel may be frequent and seasonal
• Work overtime, be on call according to a schedule (day and night, seven days a week) and occasionally work weekends, in accordance with the pertinent collective agreement
• Work in potentially hazardous and /or adverse conditions such as those found in the marine environment and in remote locations
• Work in emergency situations
• Travel for extended periods on short notice
• Wear CSA approved personal safety equipment related to the job
