Salary, Allowances, and Benefits:
The collective agreement has expired and is currently under negotiation. The salary offered could be higher than what is currently announced.
In addition to salary, you are entitled to an isolated posts allowance. This can range from $26,770 to $44,616 per year, depending on the number of dependants, geographic location and whether the accommodation is provided by the Crown. You are also entitled to vacation travel allowance of approximately $1,500 twice a year for you and each eligible dependant.
As a federal government employee, you will also receive a comprehensive benefit package including an employee pension plan and health, dental and group insurance.
Staff Geologists have a range of duties, including co-managing Nunavut’s archive of geoscience information, providing scientific and technical advice and geoscience information to clients, and evaluating assessment reports for compliance with the Nunavut Mining Regulations.
This position also reports on and promotes the geology and mineral potential of Nunavut by contributing to publications and presentations and by attendance at conferences.
Staff Geologists may be called upon to provide GIS (Geographic Information System) support. Site visits to mines and exploration projects provide an opportunity to expand your knowledge of mineral deposits in Nunavut and to build relationships with clients.

• Graduation with a degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position.
*The term "degree" refers to a baccalaureate as established by educational authorities. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.
• Experience* in one or more of:
- Mineral resource exploration and/or development.
- Regulation or monitoring of the mineral resource industry.
- Geological field research.
*Experience is normally acquired over a period of two or more years.

• Experience working in a cross-cultural environment, specifically as it relates to Inuit Qaujimaningit (Inuit Culture and Values).

Operational Requirements (may be requested, upon taking up the position):
• Ability and willingness to work overtime and outside regular operating hours.
• Ability and willingness to travel on small aircraft and helicopters.
• Ability and willingness to travel from home base for extended periods.
