Duties

The Pay Equity Unit is committed to providing you with the tools, information and training to build your career and achieve your goals and work objectives.

The tasks of the Policy Analyst include:
• Analyze, summarize, and synthesize complex information related to pay equity.
• Conduct qualitative and/or quantitative research to inform the Pay Equity Unit’s work.
• Create and curate user-centered educational materials for diverse audiences, which include guidance, tools, resources, and an online course on Pay Equity.
• Build and maintain stakeholder relationships by supporting working groups, engagement activities, and by collaborating with colleagues in the Pay Equity Unit.
• Present information related to pay equity to external stakeholders.

The successful candidate(s) will be joining the Policy, Research and Engagement team within the Pay Equity Unit. Our team is dedicated to educating and informing employers, employees, and bargaining agents about their rights and obligations under the Pay Equity Act. We aim to facilitate compliance through engagement and quality research, guidance, and tools.

Please note that the positions are in Ottawa and employees are expected to report to the office. Residents of Canada, as well as Canadian citizens and permanent residents abroad who wish to relocate to the national capital, are encouraged to submit their applications.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one or two positions.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff similar positions within the Canadian Human Rights Commission, with various tenures and with the language requirement of bilingual imperative CBC/CBC.

  • Thinking things through.

    The answer to the text question is essential to be considered for the next steps in the process. The text response must answer the following question:

    • As a policy analyst, your manager has tasked you with creating a practical 1-page handout for federally regulated employers on “How to create a Pay Equity Plan?” Please describe how you would tackle this process and include an outline with the key components you will include in the handout.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION
Degree from a recognized university with an acceptable specialization* in economics, sociology or statistics.

Note*: The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
• Experience conducting qualitative or quantitative research to inform regulations, projects, programs, and/or policy development.
• Experience analyzing, summarizing and synthesizing complex information (ex: legislation, reports, books, research, etc.).
• Experience developing user-centered resources and guidance tailored to diverse audiences, such as employees, employers, bargaining agents and/or the public.
• Experience in building and maintaining collaborative relationships and/or partnerships with internal and/or external stakeholders.

ASSET EXPERIENCE
• Experience interpreting legislation.
• Experience working in a human rights field and/or pay equity and/or labour/employment field.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to work in person in the Ottawa office
• Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice
• Ability and willingness to travel
