Master’s or Law degree graduates hired under the Economist and Policy Analyst stream are enrolled into our EC Development Program and are involved in all aspects of the Department's work. They conduct policy analysis and forecasts, perform research, and provide recommendations on a wide variety of public policy issues. Recruits can choose to specialize in a particular area of the Department of Finance Canada, or can gain experience in a number of different areas.
By providing expert policy analysis and advice to the Minister of Finance and Government of Canada, the Department is at the forefront in supporting the development and implementation of strong and sustainable economic, fiscal, tax, social, security, international and financial sector policies and programs.

As this is a collective staffing process, the qualifications required may differ from one position to another. EDUCATION:
a) Candidates must have or be working on a Master's degree from a recognized university in one of the following fields:
- Economics
- Public policy/administration
- International relations/studies
- Business administration in finance
OR
Candidates must have or be working on a program leading to a degree in law (e.g. LL.B., B.C.L. or J.D.) from a recognized university.
b) Specialization in economics
University coursework must include the equivalent of at least three full-year undergraduate or graduate courses in economics (or six half-year courses) by the time of graduation. Candidates who have a concentration in finance at the Master's degree level and three or more half-year post-secondary courses in economics will be considered.
Note: Qualifications a) and b) will be validated. You will be asked to provide copies of your transcripts at a later step in the assessment process.
Candidates must be able and willing to successfully complete their studies by December 31, 2024. Candidates hired will participate in the Economic and Social Sciences Services Developmental Program (ECDP).
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Academic scholarships, prizes, or awards.
Candidates having obtained high grades in undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the specialization relevant to the position being staffed.
Academic excellence
Candidates having obtained a grade point average (GPA) equivalent to 75 per cent or higher on their last completed Bachelor's degree.
PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATION:
Working toward or holding a professional designation relevant to the position (e.g. CPA, CMA, CFA).
EXPERIENCE:
Experience* in one or more of the following fields:
. Economics
. Public policy/administration
. International relations/studies
. Finance
* The experience acquired can be demonstrated through a combination of volunteer work, student employment (e.g. Teacher's Assistant, Research Assistant) and/or work experience.
