Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff two (2) determinate position(s) in Hamilton, Ontario.

A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), various language requirements, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education:
• Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in the field of materials science and engineering or physics, related to the duties of the position, or the employer-approved alternative for the SE classification.

Productivity or Recognition:
• Recognized achievements in the form of authorship and/or editorship of published or unpublished reports, books, book chapters, proceedings, papers, patents, or other manuscripts resulting from:

a) Research, analysis, development, and advancement in scientific and/or engineering problems; OR
c) Planning, operation, and evaluation of Canadian and foreign programs in research and development.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
• E1 - Experience in developing interdisciplinary research in materials science and engineering.
• E2 - Experience in writing research proposals, reports, and scientific publications.
• E3 - Experience in materials processing, evaluation, and characterization.
• E4 - Experience in leading collaborative research including multiple stakeholders (universities, industries, governments, or science based non-government organizations, etc.).

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Asset Qualifications:
• AQ1 - Experience in Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets and their applications.
• AQ2 - Experience in recycling and reuse of metals.
• AQ3 - Experience in magnetic measurements and data analysis.
• AQ4 - Experience in powder metallurgy or 3D printing.
• AQ5 - Experience in magnetic modeling software.

• K1 - Knowledge of the fundamental principles of materials science, material processing, evaluation, and characterization techniques.
• K2 - Knowledge of the properties of rare earth metals and their alloys, and the development and manufacturing of permanent magnets.
• K3 - Knowledge of the analytical equipment for magnetic material evaluation.
• K4 - Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety procedures.
