Duties

🚒 The main duties in this position are:

↪ Prepare training material
↪ Administer and review examinations
↪ Deliver classroom training
↪ Deliver practical training (Training Area, Bunker Gear + SCBA)
↪ Return of training materials
↪ Course evaluations
↪ Review the IFSAC process examinations
↪ Assist and correct during various phases of on-line training
↪ Provide exemplary leadership skills
↪ Very strong intercommunications skills for student’s interactions

Note: In-person attendance is required for this position. Training delivery is normally performed at Canadian Forces Fire & Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Academy (CFFCA at Canadian Forces Base Borden) or can be remotely at other National Defense installations as required.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill one (1) position on an indeterminate (permanent) basis in Borden, Ontario.

A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process and may be used to staff identical or similar positions at the Department of National Defence.

▶ NFPA 1001 - Firefighter Level I & II
▶ NFPA 1002 - Drive and Operate Fire Apparatus – Pumper and Aerial
▶ NFPA 1021 - Fire Officer Level I & II
▶ NFPA 1041 - Fire Instructor Level 1
▶ NFPA 1072 - Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel, OR NFPA 472 - Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)
▶ NFPA 1521 - Health and Safety Officer and a Fire Department Incident Safety Officer

OR

▶ Military applicants: QL-6a (with a 1021 Level II) or QL-7

EXPERIENCE

▶ Experience as a:
↪ Captain (FR-03); or
↪ Deputy Fire Chief (FR-04); or
↪ Fire Instructor from a Training Entity, or
↪ Platoon Chief position (Sgt-WO); or
↪ Deputy Fire Chief position (WO-MWO)

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

▶ Willing and able to travel
▶ Willing and able to acquire NFPA 1003 Airport Firefighter within 18 months from hire
▶ Willing and able to acquire NFPA 1041 Fire instructor level II within 18 months from hire
▶ Willing and able to obtain and retain a DND 404 operator’s permit

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

▶ Security clearance: Reliability
▶ Must possess a Provincial Driver’s license meeting the requirements of a D license (a truck with a gross weight or registered gross weight of more than 11,000 kg (24,000 lbs).
▶ Air Brake (Z) Endorsement.
▶ An acceptable driver record, also called an abstract.
▶ Willing and able to obtain and retain a DND 404 operator’s permit.
▶ Must meet and maintain the Health Canada occupational health evaluation in accordance with Treasury Board policy
▶ Successful completion of the Firefighter Pre-Entry Fitness Evaluation (FPFE)
