Duties

The RCMP Community Safety and Well Being Branch is committed to improving community safety and outreach to the community. Working towards the prevention of youth involvement in criminal activity and reducing youth victimization, the Community Outreach Section has a new opportunity for a Youth Strategies Supervisor. The position is responsible for research and development of youth strategies, programs and initiatives that support youth in rural areas in Alberta. The position is also responsible for the supervision of three Youth Strategies Coordinators who liaise with School Resource/Youth Officers, Detachments, Divisional Youth Managers, National Youth Services and other community partners.
The RCMP is proud to work with stakeholders and other partners within the communities we serve, as we recognize the importance of collaboration in improving community safety and well-being. Partnerships allow communities to come together and develop tailored supports and strategies for crime prevention, education and intervention. Increased supports and resources are especially beneficial for children and adolescents, as they are particularly vulnerable and at key stages of development. Consequently, this position plays a critical role in collaboration with community stakeholders through working groups to deliver services to our communities which support our local, provincial and national policing priorities.
Experience with youth, supervision and project management would be essential to lead a team achieve successful outcomes.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one (1) permanent position in Edmonton, Alberta.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and used to staff similar permanent and/or temporary vacancies.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

Degree equivalency

Experience liaising with community partners, private sector representatives or working groups regarding youth programs.
Experience managing the delivery of programs or services
Experience in employee supervision such as assigning work, scheduling, and monitoring performance.

Graduation from a post-secondary institution with a diploma in criminology, police studies, or some other discipline related to the position.
Graduation from a post-secondary institution with a four-year bachelor’s degree.

Degree equivalency

Experience in outreach work or working with Non-Government Organization’s with respect to group homes, counselling, etc.
Experience in leading committees, training sessions and presentations
Experience in funding applications, expenditure reports and budget forecasts.

Willingness and ability to work occasional overtime, as required.
Ability and a willingness to travel by various modes of transportation (including commercial and light aircraft) up to and including remote locations.
Valid provincial driver’s license or the personal mobility the extent normally associated with the possession of a valid driver’s license.
