The PG Academy : Fundamental Development Program is dedicated to providing an exceptional training and development opportunity for aspiring procurement professionals. Our mission is to equip new trainees with the essential skills, knowledge, and experience required to build a successful career in the procurement field within the Department of National Defence (DND).
As a Procurement Trainee, you will receive comprehensive training and guidance from subject matter experts. You will be supported with dedicated coaching and will have access to various workshops and developmental work assignments supervised by experienced procurement professionals.

Location 📍
Positions are available within the National Capital Region. Trainees will be required to work at various DND buildings within Ottawa and Gatineau sectors.

Career Path 🔨
Trainees accepted into the Program are initially appointed into a PG-01 position. Upon successful completion of all mandatory training requirements, trainees will be promoted to the PG-02 level. As a fully qualified Procurement Officer within the Materiel Group, graduated trainees will assume significant roles and responsibilities in procurement operations.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to fill current and future vacancies in Ottawa.

A pool of partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within the Department of National Defence.

EDUCATION

A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives (see Note 1).

Notes:
1. The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
✔A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
✔An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Candidates who already meet both of the following criteria must be accepted as meeting the secondary school diploma requirement:
a) Candidates who have achieved a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; and
b) Candidates who have been appointed or deployed for an indeterminate period to a position in the PG classification.

2. Acceptable experience and/or training in a field relevant to positions in the PG classification is required when the education qualification specified for the position being staffed is a secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.

Degree equivalency

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCES

EX1: Experience in providing client services
EX2: Experience in using computer software including email, word processing and spreadsheet programs.

ASSET EXPERIENCES

AEX1: Experience using an integrated financial or materiel management system (for example: System Applications and Products (SAP)).
AEX2: Experience in Inventory control or Materiel Management.
AEX3: Experience related to the procurement of goods or services.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Operational Requirements and Conditions of Employment will be screened and validated at the time of selection and appointment for each position to be filled. These may include (but are not limited to):

Willing and able to work occasional overtime when required.
Willing and able to travel to various DND buildings in the Ottawa and Gatineau areas.
