Duties

Participates in a scheduled standby system requiring a 24-hour state of operational readiness and is prepared to deploy to an accident site in a timely manner
Deployment to accident sites to gather factual information
Working with multiple agencies and stakeholders during the investigation process
Working with TSB team members off site to continue data collection and analysis and working towards identifying safety deficiencies.
Using TSB policies and procedures to draft safety investigation reports for the Manager Regional Operations, Director of Investigations, and the Board
Conduct occurrence investigation activities as an Investigator-in-charge (IIC) and/or an operational specialist. Maintain currency in operational aspects of the industry, assists in the determination of the strategic direction of an investigation and in the development of short and long-term risk mitigation options to address safety concerns
Act as a TSB spokesperson for the dissemination of investigation information to stakeholders, media, next of kin and the public, and makes presentations regarding safety themes or common occurrence investigation findings at conferences and seminars
Act as an Accredited Representative to a foreign investigation under the auspices of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 13 and as such, represent Canada and lead a team of Canadian Industry advisors engaged in support of the foreign investigation.
Maintain a valid and current Canadian Airline Transport Pilot License or a valid Canadian Commercial Helicopter License with a valid and current Group IV Instrument Rating

The TSB is a small organization with approximately 220 employees and 5 Board Members, including the Chair. The organization operates in a decentralized manner in 10 locations across Canada. Employees work in a collegial and collaborative environment.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one (1) indeterminate position in Richmon Hill, Ontario. A pool of qualified candidates will be created and may be used to staff similar positions across Canada.

EDUCATION:
Successful completion of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Possession of a valid Canadian Airline Transport Pilot License - Aeroplane Category with valid Group 1 Instrument Rating, and possession of a valid Restricted Radio-Telephone Operator Certificate (endorsed Aeronautical);
OR
Possession of a valid Canadian Commercial Pilot License - Helicopter Category with a valid Group IV Instrument Rating, and possession of a valid Restricted Radio-Telephone Operator Certificate (endorsed Aeronautical).

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 3500 hours flying experience on a variety of single and multi-engine aircraft.

Minimum of 2000 hours flying experience as pilot-in-command.

Minimum 1000 hours flying experience working with a Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) Part 700 series and/or CARs 604 series operator.

Knowledge of the Aeronautics Act, Canadian Aviation Regulations and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 13.
Knowledge of current and emerging issues and trends relating to civil aviation, aviation safety and the aviation industry.
Knowledge of aircraft and helicopter operating characteristics and aerodynamics.
