Environmental Response Specialist

Under the direction of a CCG Environmental Response Senior Response Officer, this position carries out environmental response duties in the marine environment as part of the Canadian Coast Guard’s federal mandate. This includes environmental response activities in the field, maintaining equipment, vessels and vehicles and carrying out administrative duties at an Environmental Response depot.

Search and Rescue Program Officer

Under the direction of CCG Superintendent Marine Search and Rescue, this position provides support to the delivery of the Canadian Coast Guard’s federal SAR mandate. This includes SAR operations, training and exercise activities in the field, maintaining equipment, vessels and vehicles and carrying out administrative duties at the headquarters area. SAR Program Officer streams include co-ordination and delivery of the Inshore Rescue Boat Program, the Rescue Specialist Program, Rigid Hull Inflatable Operations Training Program and SAR Exercise and Training and Coast Guard Auxiliary liaison

Regional Incident Command System (ICS) Support Officer
‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾
ICS Support Officers engage with regional partners including response organizations to foster excellent working relationships, enhance interoperability and to advance the knowledge and understanding of ICS. Officers will monitor the regional environment for potential incidents in coordination with Office of Incident Management (OIM), and regional program staff and will assist designated Incident Commanders responding to all-hazards incidents. ICS Support Officers assist operational program staff in the development of regional contingency plans applying ICS principles and concepts; support the development and execution of all-hazards exercises applying ICS principles and concepts; assist in the coordination and delivery of ICS training within the Region and assist in determining appropriate levels of ICS training for regional CCG personnel

Continuous Support Specialist

Under the direction of the Continuous Improvement Officer, Continuous Improvement Specialists engage with regional partners to promote continuous improvement activities related to marine events, specifically within the Response Directorate. Specialists will assist with the development of After Action Reports (AAR), documenting lessons learned and assisting with the development of best practices and policies. They will also assist with ensuring that existing processes maintain or achieve a high level of performance, efficiency and organization service.

Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to create a pool of qualified candidates to be used to staff these positions, or similar, within the Canadian Coast Guard in the Atlantic Region on an indeterminate, specified period (term), or acting basis.

★ Post-secondary diploma or degree related to the duties of the position

★ Marine Certification in Navigation or Engineering; Master Limited or higher; Watchkeeping Mate or higher; Engine Room Rating or higher

★ Accredited qualifications as an instructor in areas such as first aid, exercise development and delivery, small vessel operations or adult education.

★ Rescue Specialist Certification

★ ICS Certification – Level 100 or higher

★ ICS Certification – Level 300 (for Incident Command System Support Officer)

★ Experience in small craft operations

★ Experience providing and/or developing operational training

★ Experience in Environmental Response Operations

★ Experience in Marine Search and Rescue

★ Experience conducting audits and/or making recommendations on operational policies
