As the Unit Head / Supervisor for the Environmental Assessment (North) program, you will be tasked with leading a team of multi-disciplinary professionals to bring the scientific and regulatory advice of the department to bear on the assessment of proposed major projects across the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
Position Duties include:
-Providing leadership and management of the human, financial, and information resources of the Environmental Assessment North unit, including supervising as many as 6 or more staff.
-Establishing, maintaining and participating in partnerships, committees and working groups with federal and territorial government departments, Indigenous organizations and/or non-government organizations on initiatives related to wildlife and environmental assessment.
Joining our team will mean working with others to make a bona fide difference to environmental protection and conservation, by providing recommendations and science-based advice at the outset of development projects.
The intent of this process is to staff one indeterminate full-time position in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Remote work will not be considered. Relocation may be available.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established from this process which may be used to staff similar PC-04 positions within Environment and Climate Change Canada in Yellowknife, with various linguistic profiles and/or requirements, various security requirements, conditions of employments as well as tenures (Term, Assignment, Secondment, Acting, Indeterminate, Deployment), which may vary according to the position being staffed.

EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position which could include, but is not limited to, engineering, biology, ecology or environmental sciences.
EXPERIENCE
• Experience consulting, negotiating and building partnerships with various stakeholders (e.g., government, private sector, academia, non-governmental organizations, Indigenous organizations), working groups, or committees in relation to project management or project assessment.
• Experience in preparing briefings and providing advice to senior management** on complex issues*
• Experience in leading and delivering a program in the field of environmental sciences.
*Complex issues have at least two (2) of the following characteristics: multi-dimensional, sensitive or confidential, impact several partners or stakeholders, have a major impact on the public service or Government of Canada agenda, or could yield potential for significant media coverage.
**Within the public service, “senior management” means director level and above; outside the public sector, it would include any type of executive-level decision-making person.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Graduation with a master’s or doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in a field relevant to the position.
EXPERIENCE :
• Experience managing human resources and/or financial resources
• Experience managing and developing people, including mentoring, appraising performance and managing workload.
• Experience in synthesizing and presenting scientific environmental information in the assessment or regulatory review of projects at hearings before a public administrative tribunal or review board.
