Duties

Federal Policing Support Services (FPSS) provides specialized operations support to Federal and Provincial policing operations in Alberta. FPSS deploys operational assets and resources, utilizes subject matter expertise and provides guidance for the most specialized and high-risk investigative techniques utilized by Canadian and international law enforcement.

As an Administrative Support Clerk within FPSS, you will be responsible for tasks such as:

• Providing general admin assistance to Federal Policing Support Services operational units: coordinating and scheduling meetings, assisting with logistical arrangements such as travel/accommodation. Receiving, preparing and distributing mail, and maintaining office equipment, conducting research and preparing reports and correspondence;
• Providing financial assistance such as providing updates and pulling budget reports, facilitating procurement of supplies and equipment;
• Providing information management support such as creating and maintaining physical and electronic files, performing data entry and maintenance;
• Providing fleet management support.

Work environment

Although flexible work arrangements (variable work week, flexible start and end times) may be considered, full time virtual work is not being supported by management at this time.

Intent of the process

This is an anticipatory process.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and used to staff future indeterminate and/or temporary CR-04 positions within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Federal Policing Support Services in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta. In the event of a temporary vacancy, the following staffing actions may be used and/or considered: acting, assignment, deployment, secondment or term appointment.

This pool may also be used to identify candidates interested in a casual contract.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

EDUCATION

• Successful completion of two years of secondary school, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience*.

*Proof of education will be required prior to appointment.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

• Experience in the provision of administrative support services including three of the following: data entry, preparing correspondence, ordering office supplies, filing, processing mail, maintenance of office equipment, assisting with logistical arrangements such as travel/accommodation and meeting facilities.
• Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Experience providing services to internal and/or external clients via telephone, in person, and email.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE

• Experience providing financial support services such as verifying supplier invoices, monitoring and maintaining budget data, processing expenditures and journal vouchers.
• Experience using a financial management system such as SAP.
• Experience providing records management services such as indexing, cross-referencing, filing, retrieving, retaining, archiving and/or destroying data.
• Experience providing administrative support services to management such as coordinating and scheduling appointments, meetings and teleconference; preparing agendas and making meeting minutes; conducting research and preparing reports, returns and correspondence.
• Experience maintaining a law enforcement database such as CPIC, PROS, etc.
• Experience processing and handling classified, confidential or sensitive information.
• Experience transcribing documents from audio/video recordings.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Willingness and ability to work in a busy police environment including exposure to unsettling and/or graphic material.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime as required.
• Willingness and ability to maintain a valid driver's license, or have personal mobility to the degree normally associated with a driver's license.
• Willingness and ability to travel for work and/or training purposes using various modes of transportation, including owned or leased government transport, commercial and light aircraft, up to and including remote locations.

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
