Duties

RCMP Federal Policing Protective Operations provides protection services for the Governor General, the Prime Minister, parliamentarians, judges of the Supreme Court of Canada, official residences, protected sites, Internationally Protected Persons, designated individuals, and ensures security for the proper functioning of specific events.

New Police Officers can expect to begin their career in a uniform capacity, performing patrol or site protection functions while undergoing continuous training for development into the Close Protection Services, or other specialized support unit. New Police Officers who bring particular experience and training may be considered for direct entry into the Close Protection Services or other specialized support unit.

Work environment

The work location for Protection Officers of Federal Policing Protective Operations is in the National Capital Region, and working from home is not an option. Fitness and tactical skills are required abilities, and duties include regular specialized training.

Protection Officers must be willing to work in a highly dynamic, high profile and team-oriented environment, and be ready to adapt to changes in plans and schedules.

The purpose of this recruitment and selection process is to select candidates to join the RCMP as Police Officers at the rank of Constable with Federal Policing Protective Operations

A Canadian secondary school (high school) diploma or equivalent.

If your education was obtained outside Canada, you must get an equivalency assessment. Contact the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials to find out which organizations across Canada perform these assessments (www.cicic.ca).

If you did not complete secondary school, you must obtain an equivalency assessment. For more information, contact your local board of education or adult learning centre to be assessed and take a General Educational Development (GED) test or equivalent.

Degree equivalency

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Availability, flexibility and willingness to work shift work schedules including weekends, holidays, night shifts and shift modifications (under parameters of collective agreements) due to change in plans

Ability to work overtime (compensated)

Ability to travel domestically and internationally, including overnight

Possess a valid, unrestricted driver's licence
(Please note that an unrestricted driver’s licence is one that allows you to drive without supervision at any hour of the day or night, on any highway and with as many passengers a there are seatbelts.)

Ability to carry a firearm and to use it or any other necessary physical force

Able and willing to perform physical effort in the form of continuous standing and walking (50-60% of time) while on duty

**Bilingual non-imperative is defined as a staffing procedure for a bilingual position allowing the consideration of applicants who meet all essential qualifications except for the requisite language skills. Close Protection/Executive Protection experience with other agency or private sector

Tactical or international deployment experience with other agency.

Experience in a security and/or law enforcement work environment such as the detection field, security/patrol field, military, policing or other field relevant to the position.

Experience and proficiency in the use of firearms.

Experience and proficiency in defensive tactics
