Work environment

Real Property, Safety & Security (RPSS) is one of three real property custodians within Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) administering the majority of DFO real property assets, including office and special purpose buildings, such as Canadian Coast Guard bases, light stations, hatcheries, laboratories and a number of smaller facilities. The availability of these facilities, along with Public Services and Procurement Canada-provided leased inventory, are crucial for departmental sectors to deliver their mandated programs.

The branch provides leadership and expertise in real property planning, strategic investment, divestiture, infrastructure life cycle management, facilities maintenance, environmental management, and employee safety and security advisory services. Regardless of the position to be staffed, we are looking for self-starters who are passionate about service excellence and eager to assist our clients in meeting their objectives.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff temporary for approximately 15 months (beginning in October 2023) and to create a pool to staff this position or similar positions on an indeterminate, acting, specified period, deployment, or assignment basis, as needed.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
• Experience coordinating, implementing and monitoring environmental compliance projects/ programs related to federal environmental legislation and policies (i.e. the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) and the Impact Assessment Act (IAA)), such as audits, compliance promotion and/or reporting
• Minimum 3 years of recent* experience working in the field of environmental management or environmental impact assessment
• Experience in developing and/or managing inventories or data
• Experience working with stakeholders, clients or organizations to improve environmental performance
*Recent experience is defined as having occurred in the last 5 years.

• Experience analyzing and interpreting environmental data for the purpose of providing recommendations and identifying trends relating to environmental compliance, contaminated sites, or sustainable development
• Experience conducting environmental inspections or audits, which evaluate regulatory compliance or which evaluate environmental management system performance
