The CRTC oversees an industry that relies on technology to provide communication services to Canadians and our decision makers need to take technical trends and issues into account. Engineers at the CRTC face the following specific challenges:
You must be a critical-thinker who is able to provide solid technical advice while always considering the impact of your recommendations on the industry and on Canadians
You must be able to effectively explain technology to a non-technical audience and present your ideas effectively taking into account the big picture
You must work well with your colleagues in a fast-paced environment as we are a small, nimble organization that gets things done quickly
Are you looking for a career where you have a direct impact on the daily lives of Canadians? Tired of working for a large, stuffy government department? Looking for better work-life balance? The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) may be the place for you. 87% of our employees think that the CRTC is an awesome place to work according to the most recent Public Service Employee Survey results!
Engineers at the CRTC are highly valued experts whose technical knowledge is relied on as the CRTC sets groundbreaking policy. Given that the CRTC is a relatively flat organization, their knowledge and analysis is delivered directly to top level decision makers. Further, as a small organization, the CRTC is able to support the development of employees and maintain nimble approval processes.
As part of our role in ensuring that Canadians have access to a world-class communications system, we at the CRTC oversee various services on which we all rely. For example we:
Work to enhance competition in telecommunications services, such as Internet broadband and mobile wireless services;
Promote informing consumers by collecting, reporting publicly and making available information about services, including in relation to performance and mobile coverage
Promote Canadian culture and the development of compelling and diverse content by and for Canadians through the licensing of TV and radio services;
Regulate the provision of emergency services, such as 9-1-1 and emergency alerting; and
Work to reduce spam, unsolicited telecommunications and other nuisance communications.

Please DO NOT send a cover letter. These screening questions replace the cover letter. We will NOT review cover letters.
The purpose of these screening questions is to help you submit an application that is clear, complete and persuasive and demonstrates that you have all of the required essential education and experience qualifications and some or all of the asset education and experience qualifications. Responses will not be considered satisfactory if you simply state that you have the required qualifications or provide a list of current or past responsibilities or paraphrase the qualifications.
Your responses to the screening questions will be used as the primary source to determine if you meet the screening requirements. If you do not fully complete the screening questions as instructed, you may be screened out. The resume you have sent with your initial application will be used only if the Assessment Board considers it needs to validate the information provided in this questionnaire.
Each question is divided into two parts. The first part consists of a simple question requiring a YES or NO answer. If your answer is “yes”, the second part will ask to fully demonstrate how you obtained this qualification.
Communication for this process will be sent via email. It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure accurate contact information is provided and updated as required. Candidates who apply to this selection process should include an email address that accepts emails from unknown users (some email systems block these types of email).
A random or top down selection of candidates may be used in the determination of those to be given further consideration in the assessment process.
Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.

We thank all those who apply. Only those selected for further consideration will be contacted.
