Duties

The Regional Communication Officer provides services to victims, their representatives, advocacy groups, media, criminal justice partners and the public. They accompany observers including registered victims to provincial and federal institutions, respond to media and public enquiries, and manage a program of public education by delivering information sessions to criminal justice partners, stakeholders, and the general public.

Work environment

The Parole Board of Canada (PBC) is an independent administrative tribunal that, as part of the Canadian criminal justice system, makes quality conditional release and record suspension decisions, and clemency recommendations. The PBC contributes to the protection of society by facilitating, as appropriate, the timely reintegration of offenders as law-abiding citizens. Public safety is the primary consideration in all PBC decisions.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one (1) full-time indeterminate position.

The results of this process will be used to fill the above mentioned position on an indeterminate basis. As a result of this process, a pool of qualified or partially-qualified candidates may be created to staff similar positions of various tenure such as acting, specified period appointment, deployment, assignment or secondment and various security and linguistic profiles at the Parole Board of Canada.

Education:

A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternative*
*The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
• A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or
• An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

EXP1: Significant* Experience in preparing written correspondence to explain legislation, policies or procedures;
EXP2: Significant* Experience in providing advice and expertise related to legislation, procedures or policies to different stakeholder such as management, clients, criminal justice system partners, etc.

*Significant means generally a minimum of two (2) years of experience.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

AED: Graduation with a diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in criminology, sociology, law, public administration or in another field relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience:

AEXP1: Experience in providing services to victims of crime or any person in need of assistance or support;
AEXP2: Experience working within the criminal justice system program;
AEXP3: Experience working in communications or public relations;
AEXP4: Experience working with computer software such as client case management systems.

Knowledge:

AK1: Knowledge of the Parole Board of Canada’s legislative framework;
AK2: Knowledge of the Parole Board of Canada’s role in the criminal justice system.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Be willing and able to work overtime on occasion;
Possessing a valid driver’s licence;
Be willing and able to travel to various locations including National Capital Region, various federal institutions, community correctional centres and parole offices;
Be willing to travel on short notice.
