At the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC), we are working on a top government priority to put in place better rules for the review of major projects such as pipelines, mines, hydroelectric, ports etc. We are a small Agency now, but we are growing and growing fast.

A pool of qualified or partially assessed candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level with various language requirements, various security requirements, various conditions of employment, various tenures (acting, assignment/secondment, deployment, term and/or indeterminate), and in various locations within the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC).

EDUCATION:
- Graduation with a degree from a recognized university, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position
NOTE: Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of two years’ experience* in leading, undertaking, contributing to, or coordinating impact or environmental assessments**
- A minimum of two years’ experience* providing advice and presenting key information about complex*** environmental issues to management, independent review panels, decision-makers or the public.
- Experience in group facilitation, negotiation, or conflict resolution
* The experience must be acquired over a total of two years, not necessarily consecutive.
Experiences can be gained through professional or personal life experiences, as relevant. This may be in the context of working for, or with, government departments or agencies (federal or provincial), Indigenous groups, environmental non-governmental organizations, environmental consulting firms, or other bodies relevant to the position.
** Environmental and impact assessments refer to assessment processes such as those pursuant to the former Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 (CEAA 2012) or the Impact Assessment Act. Or similar legislation enforced by another jurisdiction. These are distinct from processes such as site assessments.
*** Complex issues are defined as issues with cross-cutting and multi-dimensional aspects (e.g., science, technology, society, economic and political contexts, stakeholder or Indigenous perspectives).
