EG-05 Housing Program Technical Support Advisor

Stream 1 EG-05
Contributes to effective Greener Homes Division’s program delivery to clients, processes requests, answers enquiries and provides technical information to service organizations/external partners regarding homeowner files. Investigates, troubleshoots, and updates problem files, quality assurance reports and databases. Coordinates, develops and maintains problem files procedures. Manages data transfers to provincial partners to ensure timely program delivery. Provides advice and recommendations to service organizations/external partners/team members and management/technical personnel. Requires knowledge of building science, Canadian low-rise residential construction/renovation practices, and residential mechanical systems in order to respond to technical enquiries and provide advice and support for housing programs. Requires thorough knowledge of quality assurance processes, databases and applicable building standards, codes and program requirements.
Stream 2 EG-06
Provides building science expertise and technical advice for complex issues related to housing programs and energy simulation software. Planning, organizing and developing testing requirements for existing simulation software and processes. Performs research and analysis, develops and validates procedures and processes, and creates and edits technical documentation in support of development and maintenance of the EnerGuide Rating System infrastructure for low-rise housing. Requires knowledge of building science, Canadian low-rise residential construction/renovation practices, and residential mechanical systems in order to respond to technical questions and provide advice to management on development of housing programs.
At Greener Homes Division, Office of Energy Efficiency, Natural Resources Canada, we work with all orders of government and key partners to advance energy efficiency in the residential sector.
Buildings, including our homes, account for 18% of Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions, so helping Canadians make where they live more energy-efficient supports our environmental objectives while making homes more comfortable and more affordable to maintain.
We are responsible for areas such as housing energy efficiency performance and national building codes, Energy Efficiency Regulations, technical support to our ENERGYSTAR programs; development of test standards to evaluate technologies; market transformation to achieve national greenhouse gas reduction goals, and technical support to major national initiatives such as the $2.6 billion Canada Greener Homes Grant initiative. This multi-faceted approach allows us to contribute to national and provincial/territorial energy efficiency initiatives across Canada.

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in one of the following disciplines: science; building science; architecture; mechanical engineering; civil engineering; environmental engineering; or another specialty relevant to the duties of the position; or,
An acceptable combination* of education, experience or training would also be accepted.
*Acceptable combination refers to a graduation from a recognized high school institution and at least four (4) years federal housing programs related experience.
All streams:
Significant* experience with on-site Canadian low-rise residential building construction, renovation, home inspection or energy efficiency evaluations.
Experience in using HOT2000 modelling software.
*Significant experience will be evaluated in terms of length, complexity and diversity of work experience that was a core part of the candidate’s employment and would have normally been obtained during a period of approximately four (4) years following graduation from an undergraduate program.
