Duties

Reporting directly to the Director, Research Development and Technology (RDT), the Associate Director RDT manages day to day activities related to their Centre to contribute to agriculture and agri-food systems within their ecozone and national contexts; manages scientists and other science professionals and support staff; develops and executes, for their Centre, annual business plans, including HR, financial, equipment, and communication plans aligned with the Branch’s strategic and business plans; brokers local and regional collaboration and partnerships; and contributes, under the leadership of the Director RDT, to knowledge and technology transfer activities and to the career development and peer review process for researchers as well as other agricultural science professionals at their Centre of responsibility. These duties require regular and frequent on-site presence of at least 3 days per week.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one position in the Agassiz Research and Development Centre (ARDC), British Columbia. The duties of the position require regular and frequent on-site presence of at least 3 days per week.

A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates will be established and may be used to fill identical or similar positions within the Federal Public Service with various tenures, linguistic requirements, security requirements, conditions of employment, and in various locations across Canada.

In the event that an employee of the public service is qualified through this process, and there is a temporary need, he/she may be considered for acting, deployment, assignment or secondment opportunities.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural sciences related to the duties of the position;
OR
An acceptable master’s degree coupled with acceptable research, training and experience. The degree must be from a recognized post-secondary institution and in scientific fields and specialties related to the duties of the position. The training and experience must clearly demonstrate the ability to perform research of doctoral degree caliber.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
Experience in leading or managing science-based activities.
Experience in managing human and financial resources.
Experience in briefing and providing science management advice to senior leadership (E,g, Director, Director General, Vice-President or above).

ASSET EXPERIENCE:
Experience in operational management at an agricultural or natural resources-based research facility.
Experience in leading committees related to workplace governance and wellness.
