The intent of this process is to staff one (1) indeterminate position located in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Education:
- Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural sciences related to the duties of the position, such as, a specialization in climate science, ecology, forestry, soil science, or other related area, or the employer-approved alternative for the SE classification.
Note: The employer-approved alternative for the SE classification is an acceptable master’s or bachelor’s degree coupled with acceptable research, training and experience. The degree must be from a recognized post-secondary institution and in scientific fields and specialties related to the duties of the position. The training and experience must clearly demonstrate the ability to do personal research of doctoral degree calibre.
Productivity/Recognition:
- A proven record of scientific publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals, published reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from operational research and scientific analysis.
- Achievements in the form of local and national or international recognition of research or uptake of research by forest managers or other end users.
Experience:
- Experience planning, directing, and conducting scientific research in one or more research areas related to forest soil climate change, such as, forest carbon cycling, forest carbon sequestration, silviculture, GHG accounting, forest resilience, adaptation, social dimensions or land restoration.
- Experience collaborating effectively with stakeholder groups to address key research questions on forest soils climate change.
- Experience developing grant proposals and accounting for resources allocated.
- Experience supervising scientific support staff, students or visiting researchers.
- Experience communicating approaches and results of research to technical and non-technical audiences effectively through such things as presentations, stakeholder meetings, peer-reviewed scientific journals, books, reports or other media.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
- Experience working on multidisciplinary or large-scale projects.
- Experience working with Indigenous Communities.
Operational Requirements:
- Valid driver’s licence
- Willing and able to travel within Canada (and abroad), including travel by car, rail and air.
- Willing and able to work overtime as required and to adopt flexible work hours as per operational requirements.

Information on language requirements
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of climate change impacts on forests, forest soils and forest communities.
- Knowledge of sustainable forest management practices and/or silviculture to address climate change issues, such as, disturbance regimes, productivity, composition, and soil carbon.
- Knowledge of the methods, techniques and practices involved in conducting forestry climate change research, such as field, laboratory, greenhouse, or growth chamber experiments.
- Knowledge of climate change related forestry strategies, policies, and models.
Abilities:
