Duties

Who are we and what do we do?
The Ottawa Cybercrime Investigative Team is part of O Division. Its mandate is to investigate priority cybercrimes throughout Canada. The investigations will be primarily focused on “technology-as-target” rather than “technology-as-instrument” crimes such as mischief to data and unauthorized use of computer (hacking). Investigators are responsible for leveraging specialized skills to investigate a wide array of cybercrimes, domestically and internationally, and lead a variety of large scale cybercrime investigations.

Investigators will be trained to remain current in the latest technologies related to cybercrime investigations. Investigators will work in a team environment using the Major case management model to investigate files. Investigators will foster and promote partnerships to build capacity to successfully investigate cybercrime throughout Canada.

Through such investigations, the RCMP works to ensure that Canadians can maintain confidence in government programs and the safety of its critical infrastructure.

What will you be doing?
As a Covert Access Intercept Team (CAIT) member, you duties will include:

1. provide liaison between Covert Access and Intercept Team NHQ and Cyber Investigative
Team;
2. covert remote and physical access to computing devices and networks;
3. provide advice on investigative techniques which depend on Computer or Network
Exploitation
4. providing operational support to the Cyber Investigative Team in reference to CAIT
capabilities;
5. successfully completing of some of the courses listed in the Covert Access and Intercept
Team Certification Training Program.
6. facilitation of deployment of computer-based investigative techniques for interception and
identification;
8. work with CAIT NHQ on development of new capabilities of computer-based investigative
techniques for interception and identification in regards to Cyber Crime investigations.

As a member of the Cybercrime Investigative Team, the Covert Access Intercept member would have the opportunity to work on a variety of tasks in assistance to a team of investigators dedicated to investigating a wide array of cybercrimes, domestically and internationally including; Mischief in relation to data, Unauthorized use of computer (hacking), Threats to vital cyber systems.

Intent of the process

The intent of the selection process is to staff one (1) indeterminate English essential position with an Enhanced Reliability Status with RCMP Top Secret security clearance. The position is located at 155 McArthur Avenue, Ottawa, ON.

*Work must be completed in the office 5 days a week.

This selection process could also be used to staff similar positions of varying tenures, of varying bilingual imperative linguistic profiles within the National Division, RCMP.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

Graduation from a two-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

Degree equivalency

Experience in installing, configuring and maintaining IT software products such as security and server software as well as open source and ethical hacking tools.

Experience writing software tools in high level programing/scripting languages such as: Python, Powershell, and Linux shell.

Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Windows or Linux services on virtualized or physical infrastructures.

Knowledge of virtualization products such as Oracle Virtualbox, VMWare Player, VMWare vSphere or Citrix XenServer

Experience with legal authorizations such as Transmission Data Recorder (TDR) warrants, General Warrants or Part VI authorizations

Network security/penetration testing related certification(s) such as Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP), Offensive Security Wireless Professional (OSWP), Offensive Security Certified Expert (OSCE) and Security Essentials Certification (GIAC-GSEC)

Experience administering, configuring and troubleshooting at least 3 out of the following 5 technologies: routers, managed switches, VPNs, firewalls and proxies

Experience installing, configuring and maintaining Linux servers, both virtual and physical using only the command line

Experience in offensive security techniques such as penetration testing, malware analysis and web exploits.

Experience in object oriented languages such as Java or C++

Experience analysing / adjusting to different source codes in different languages

Experience in web development and identifying vulnerabilities in Web applications

Knowledge of configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer hardware and peripherals
