Duties

A Detachment Support Assistant provides administrative and operational support services for police officers and other employees at a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment. This position also provides front counter and telephone assistance, services and information to the general public.

Work environment

The Rocky Mountain House RCMP Detachment is looking for motivated and industrious individuals to be a part of a team of support personnel who directly impact the public and regular members who work in frontline policing.

Detachment Service Assistants positions require the ability to think things through to problem solve, anticipate needs, stay current with applicable policies and procedures as well as be adaptable in an ever-changing work environment. The nature of your duties will be a combination of repetitive and varied, and be suited to an applicant comfortable multitasking in a fast paced, often loud, demanding environment.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff two (2) permanent positions in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. 

A pool of qualified candidates may be established and used to staff similar permanent and/or temporary vacancies. 

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

EDUCATION
• Successful completion of two years of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.1

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
• Experience providing service to internal or external clients / general public, via telephone or in person.
• Experience in the provision of administrative support services including two of the following: data entry, preparing correspondence, ordering office supplies, filing, or processing mail.
• Experience in using computer applications including two of the following: databases, email, spreadsheets, and word processing.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

EXPERIENCE
• Experience in maintaining a law enforcement database such as: Police Reporting Occurrence System (PROS) or Canadian Police Information (CPIC).
• Experience working in a fast paced, demanding environment.
• Experience working in a law enforcement and/or legal environment.
