The Senior Investigator is responsible for conducting inspections and investigations related to enforcing the Canadian Transportation Agency's air, rail, accessibility and passenger protection mandates. This includes verifying compliance with the Canada Transportation Act and related regulations and exercising varied levels of enforcement on identified non-compliance. The Senior Investigator is also responsible for providing guidance to various transportation service providers to promote compliance with the Act and its regulations.

This process is to staff two indeterminate positions, one in the Calgary area. Specific work arrangements will be discussed with the manager based on the position and operational needs.
A pool of qualified candidates could be created to staff future positions with various tenures (indeterminate, determinate, deployment, acting, and secondment) with similar requirements, various language requirements and profiles and various security requirements.
Results of this staffing process may be used for similar positions in the Agency and other departments and agencies in the federal government.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
Post-secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in interpreting and applying Acts and Regulations.
Experience in dealing with senior officials of regulatory Agency or other government departments.
Experience in preparing reports and correspondence for senior management.
Experience in law enforcement.
Various language requirements

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE:
Experience gathering and analyzing evidence, interviewing witnesses or suspects.
Experience in giving evidence before a Judge or Jury in administrative or criminal proceedings.
Experience in dealing with representatives of the aviation industry from front line staff to management personnel.
Experience in providing training sessions to staff and the general public on a variety of issues relating to legislation or security.
Experience in regulatory or criminal investigations.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequent travel including on small aircraft and float planes.
This is a solitary work environment including travel to very remote parts of Canada.
Reliability Status security clearance
Valid Driver's License.

Pass marks will be established for each qualifications. However, achieving the pass mark is not a guarantee of an appointment or that candidates will be put through the next stages of the assessment process. Cut-off scores and/or top-down approach may be used at any stage of the staffing process if there are a sufficient number of candidates to meet anticipated staffing needs.
All of the information collected during the selection process, including behaviour and communication, from the time of application until the end of the process, may be used to evaluate candidates.
Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
