Work environment

Please be advised this process will be used to staff positions in the new department of Indigenous Services Canada. The creation of Indigenous Services Canada is an important development in our renewed relationship with Indigenous peoples. These structural changes will allow our government to work more effectively with Indigenous partners to provide services that improve people’s day-to-day quality of life. Virtual hybrid work arrangements may be available and will be determined on a case by case basis dependent on operational feasibility at the time of hiring and the position to be staffed. As announced by the Treasury Board of Canada, Indigenous Services Canada employees are expected to perform their duties from a government of Canada physical workplace at least 2–3 days each week, or 40–60% of their regular schedule.

Education:
• Successful completion of secondary school or an acceptable combination of education, training or experience relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

Experience:
• Experience using word processing and spreadsheet software (such as but not limited to, Microsoft Word and Excel).
• Experience in providing administrative support in an office environment in areas such as managing a daily schedule, including planning and coordinating meetings, finance, human resources, material management, administrative support to the preparation of reports or travel bookings.
• Experience responding to client or provider inquiries.

Abilities:

• Ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Proof of citizenship:
All applicants who are new to the federal public service must provide proof of citizenship or permanent residency prior to their appointment. This is necessary for both temporary (specified period) and permanent (indeterminate) employment. Any of the four (4) documents would be accepted: 1. Birth Certificate, 2. Passport, 3. Citizenship Certificate or 4. Permanent resident card (PR card). Note: An expired passport, satisfies the proof of citizenship requirement.

Several methods of assessment could be used to assess potential candidates (e.g. standardized tests, written exam, interview, reference check, etc.).
