A pool will be created in anticipation of future vacancies in the following locations: Nanaimo, Sidney, Delta, West Vancouver and Cultus Lake, BC. The pool may also be used to staff positions with similar qualifications within the department in various locations and/or tenures throughout the Pacific Region.

EDUCATION
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

Note: The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

EXPERIENCE
STREAM 1: BI-02/BI-03 – DATA STEWARD/SENIOR DATA STEWARD/PROGRAM HEAD
• Experience in data stewardship in a work or research environment, which includes responsibility for the assessment, improvement, and ongoing fit-for-purpose conformance of a data asset.*
• Experience reviewing data for accuracy and completeness in a work or research environment.*
• Experience organizing, conducting, or participating in scientific projects.*
• Experience using Standard Query Language to work with relational databases.*
• Experience building or maintaining relational databases in a work or research environment.*
• Experience using a programming language.*
• BI-03 ONLY - Experience supervising staff and managing budgets.

*Note: BI-03 positions: Significant experience is required for starred criteria, defined as depth and breadth of experience normally associated with the performance of the duties for a period of approximately 2 years on a full-time basis.

STREAM 2: BI-02/BI-03 – DATA ANALYST/ SENIOR DATA ANALYST / PROGRAM HEAD
• Experience in modern statistical ecology, such as generalized linear models, mixed-effects models, and model selection.*
• Experience using a programming language (such as R) to manipulate, visualize and analyze data.*
• Experience fitting models to complex natural science data (for example, population dynamics, epidemiological modelling, etc.).*
• Experience writing scientific and technical publications or reports.*
• BI-03 ONLY - Experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships or partnerships with stakeholders, Indigenous communities, or organizations.

*Note: BI-03 positions: Significant experience is required for starred criteria, defined as depth and breadth of experience normally associated with the performance of the duties for a period of approximately 2 years on a full-time basis.

ASSET EXPERIENCE
• Experience using a programming language to develop and perform data transformation or data loading procedures.
• Experience using geographic information system software in a work or research environment.
• Experience supervising staff and managing budgets.
• Experience in advanced statistical analysis such as Bayesian, non-parametric, spatial and/or multivariate models.
• Experience in cross-discipline communication between IT, scientific, and field programs
• Experience with data synthesis and visualization for communication and decision-making

ASSET KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of data management theory, best practices and procedures
• Knowledge of Pacific Region commercial fisheries
• Knowledge of stock assessment methods
