The Zone Nursing Officer manages and leads nurses practicing in the domains of public/community health nursing to ensure delivery of organization and community programs and services by a competent nursing work force.
The Communicable Disease Coordinator collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to review and develop policy and provide expert advice, knowledge and support to health professionals, communities and organizations.
Clinical Nurse Specialists are an expert resource on nursing practice for an identified population. They provide expertise in consultation, clinical practice, leadership and knowledge transfer through research and education.
The official workplace for the Regional Communicable Disease Coordinator and Clinical Nurse Specialists is in Regina, Saskatchewan. The Zone Nursing Officer supports community health nurses working in the diverse cultures of Saskatchewan First Nation communities.
First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB), Indigenous Services Canada, is recruiting Registered Nurses to provide quality, evidence-informed nursing services, respectful of culture and intended to enhance the health of First Nations peoples in Saskatchewan.
The Registered Nurse collaborates in the delivery of comprehensive health programs which include promoting, protecting and preserving the health of First Nations populations. Health Care programs are designed in partnership with community members and leaders to promote environments that support good health.
The maintenance of cultural competence and the provision of culturally safe care are paramount in these areas of practice.
The immediate need is to staff the following positions:
On an indeterminate (permanent) basis:
Zone Nursing Officer
Clinical Nurse Specialist (Mental health)
Clinical Nurse Specialist (Chronic Disease)
On a term (contract) basis:
Regional Communicable Disease Coordinator
Clinical Nurse Specialist (Maternal Child Health)
A pool of qualified or partially assessed candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level with various language requirements, various security requirements, various conditions of employment, various tenures (acting, assignment/secondment, deployment, term and/or indeterminate), and in various locations within Saskatchewan.

Graduation with a degree* from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in nursing, nursing service administration, nursing education or some other specialty relevant to the position

Graduation with a master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in nursing, nursing service administration, nursing education or some other specialty relevant to the position.
Occupational Certification:
Eligibility for registration as a registered nurse in a province or territory of Canada
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years experience in community health nursing
Experience participating in the development, implementation or evaluation of health programs or services
Experience developing and maintaining partnerships with internal or external stakeholders
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Stream 1: (Zone Nursing Officer + Regional Communicable Disease Coordinator)
Graduation with a master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in nursing, nursing service administration, nursing education or some other specialty relevant to the position.
Experience: (Stream 1 + 2)
Experience in primary health care nursing (which may include primary care, public health, or home care)
Experience evaluating programs or projects
Experience with nursing informatics*
Experience with mental health programs or in providing mental health services
Experience with chronic disease programs or in providing chronic disease management
Experience with maternal-child development, programs or in providing maternal-child services
Experience in preceptorship or mentorship
Experience working in rural, remote or isolated locations
*The Canadian Nurses Association states that “Nursing informatics refers to the practice and science of integrating nursing information and knowledge with technology to manage and integrate health information.”

Operational Requirements:
Willingness to relocate to Saskatchewan
Availability for regional and national travel. Incumbents may be required to travel by vehicle or small fixed-wing aircraft, and occasionally into remote northern locations.
Willingness and ability to work flexible or irregular hours
Willingness and ability to work overtime on short notice
Willingness and ability to work overtime in the event of a Public Health emergency or outbreak
Conditions of Employment:
Reliability Status Security Clearance
Possession of a valid driver’s licence
Current BLS Certification (healthcare provider CPR)
Continuous professional registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
