The Geoinformatics Data Analyst (GDA) is responsible for the development and documentation of workflows (including updates) for managing internal and external geoscience data in support of the Geological Survey of Canada’s (GSC) programs/projects. This geoscience data may include geological samples, well formation top picks, measured stratigraphic sections, laboratory results, etc.
The GDA is responsible for providing subject matter expertise (SME) as it relates to GSC corporate geoscience databases and applications. The GDA will be responsible for all aspects of training new and existing staff (including students, casuals, temporary, and indeterminate staff) of the intricates of the databases and applications.

These databases are required to follow all Government of Canada (GoC) directives by enforcing database policies, procedures, and standards. Databases are developed in accordance with end-user requirements and follow all relevant geoscience data management principles.
The GDA will work closely with geoscientists to support seamless (in and out) flow of geoscience data by assessing data management systems from a frontend accessibility for end-users, while adhering to acceptable user defined performance.

At Natural Resources Canada, a Federal government job means developing leadership skills, fostering teamwork, and supporting creativity and innovation. Canada’s governments depend on geoscience to inform policy, manage the country’s landmass and develop its natural resources responsibly. The Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) is the national organization for geoscientific information and research. Since 1842 the Geological Survey of Canada has produced cutting-edge, authoritative geoscience to support mineral exploration, climate change research, marine and coastal resilience, and natural hazards mapping. Our work supports decision-making in the mining and energy sectors, as well as national sovereignty, hazards risk management, and more.
The Calgary Division leads multidisciplinary geoscience and innovative laboratory-based research for the GSC and our partners, with a focus on Energy geoscience. We produce world-class geoscience that provide expert advice to inform sustainable energy and mineral development, environmental assessments, and land-use decisions. We operate state-of-the-art laboratory facilities that undertake collaborative research with GSC programs. We build strong relationships in the energy sector and with scientific partners across Canada, guided by a philosophy of co-development.
