This position is located in a law enforcement environment which includes regular contact with uniformed and armed police officers.
The anticipated intent/result of this process is to indeterminately staff (on a full time basis) one position.
The result of this selection process will be to create a pool of qualified candidates which may be used to fill future permanent or temporary vacancies.
Should a CM be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to another category for the member.

Education:
A certificate or diploma from a recognized Canadian University or college with acceptable specialization in occupational health, industrial hygiene, health physics, safety management, loss control management, safety engineering or any other field relevant to the work to be performed.
Occupational Certification:
Certification as an occupational safety specialist, industrial hygienist or public health inspector. This includes, but is not limited to certification as a:
1. Canadian Registered Safety Professional by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals
2. Registered Occupational Hygienist or Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist by the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists
3. Industrial Hygienist or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist by the American Board of Hygiene or jointly with the Board of Certified Safety Professionals
4. Certified Health and Safety Consultant by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering
5. Public Health Inspector (Canada) by the Canadian Institute of public Health Inspectors Board of Certification
Experience:
E1. Recent and Significant Experience* coordinating an occupational health and safety program, including but not limited to the following elements: risk prevention, job hazard analyses, workplace accident/incident management, and development of policies, procedures, projects or directives.
E2. Recent Experience* providing advice and guidance regarding the interpretation and application of federal or provincial Occupational Health and Safety legislation including Acts, Codes, Regulations, Standards and industry codes of practice.
E3. Significant Experience* in conducting investigations, inspections and providing training.
* Recent and significant experience is normally associated with the performance of these duties as part of your major job duties for a period of three cumulative years in the last five years.

Operational Requirements:
A valid Class 5 BC’s driver’s licence.
Willingness and ability to travel for work and training purposes via various modes of transportation.
Conditions of Employment:
- Enhanced reliability status with secret security clearance.
-Willingness and ability to occasionally work irregular hours, overtime, sometimes on short notice.
-Willingness and ability to travel.
-Willingness and ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to personal flotation devices, protective footwear, respiratory protection and fall protection equipment. Some of these items may be heavy or cumbersome.
-Possession of a valid BC Driver’s Licence.

NOTE: Successful candidates will require a valid RCMP security clearance prior to appointment and throughout the tenure of their employment. The process to obtain RCMP security clearance involves a security/reliability interview and a field investigation regarding matters of criminal activity which includes reference checks, verification of credit/financial status, education, employment, etc. As such, the process may take several weeks or months to complete.

The security requirements are the same for all employees of the RCMP.
Depending on the requirements of the position(s) being staffed from this process, for current or future vacancies, any or all of the asset qualifications, operational requirements, and organizational needs may be applied at the time of staffing. Candidates may be contacted and assessed against these criteria at any time during this process.
Interested persons must meet the essential qualifications to be appointed to the position, in a manner determined by the Selection Board. A person may be appointed to the position even though he/she does not meet any or all of the asset qualifications, operational requirements or organizational needs. However, meeting these criteria is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed.
Once established, the qualified pool will be valid for a period of 12 months and may be extended.
Please note that candidates (including persons employed in the Public Service) will not be considered to be in travel status or on government business and travel costs will not be reimbursed. Consequently, candidates will be responsible for travel costs.
Random selection may be used to identify which applicants will be assessed or appointed in this appointment process.

If a qualified candidate has been selected and appointed on an indeterminate basis from the established pool, they will be removed from the pool. If a candidate is selected for a specified period (including term, acting, or assignment/secondment) appointment, they will remain in the pool for future offers.
This process and the resulting pool will only be used to staff positions in the RCMP.
Experience qualifications will be assessed upon application. Further confirmation or assessment may be conducted through reference checks.
Any information provided by a candidate through their application or assessment that is deemed to be incorrect or fraudulent will be eliminated from further consideration.
