Duties

This project will involve recontextualising the volcanic history and stratigraphy of the Harrison Lake formation. As part of an Indigenous-led research program with the Sts’ailes Nation, the student will conduct field-based mapping, stratigraphic assessment, zircon geochronology, and trace element geochemistry of Mesozoic volcanic and volcaniclastic lithologies in the Harrison Lake formation of southwestern B.C. The student will investigate exposed sequences, containing fossiliferous and toolstone-grade lithologies of community importance, with the aim of gaining insight into the paleovolcanic history of the area.

Intent of the process

The intention is to staff one student position for the completion of a Master of Science degree supervised by Dr. Glyn Williams-Jones in the Department of Earth Sciences at Simon Fraser University.
