The Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) is the national organization for geoscientific information and research. Since 1842 the Geological Survey of Canada has produced cutting-edge, authoritative geoscience to support mineral exploration, climate change research, marine and coastal resilience, and natural hazards mapping. Our work supports decision-making in the mining and energy sectors, as well as national sovereignty, hazards risk management and more.
The Canada-Nunavut Geoscience Office (CNGO) consists of expertise in geology, GIS and cartography and online data dissemination. The mandate of the office is to provide Nunavut with accessible geoscience information and expertise to support responsible resource exploration and development, responsible infrastructure development, and geoscience education, training and awareness. The office was established in 1999 and is a partnership between the Department of Economic Development and Transportation of the Government of Nunavut (GN-EDT), Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC). Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated (NTI) is an ex-officio member of the CNGO Management Board that provides operational oversight for the office.
CNGO office: Located downtown Iqaluit close to restaurants and cafes. Workout or swim at lunch at the new Iqaluit pool and fitness centre. Experience short commute times to get to the office.
The intent of the process is to staff one (1) indeterminate position in Iqaluit.
A pool of (fully or partially qualified) candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at the SE-REM group and level within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), with various language requirements, various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

Education:
E1: Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural sciences related to the duties of the position, or the employer-approved alternative for the SE classification.
The employer-approved alternative for the SE classification is an acceptable master’s or bachelor’s degree coupled with acceptable research, training and experience. The degree must be from a recognized post-secondary institution and in scientific fields and specialties related to the duties of the position. The training and experience must clearly demonstrate the ability to do personal research of doctoral degree calibre.
Experience:
EX1 - Significant experience* in managing scientific research activities related to geoscience or geology or other scientific fields relevant to the position.
EX2 - Experience in the planning and managing of human** and financial*** resources.
EX3 - Experience in developing and delivering collaborative research initiatives with various partners or stakeholders.
*Significant experience is defined as approximately three (3) years.
**Managing human resources is defined as applicants must clearly demonstrate that they have supervised staff, assigned work, managed and assessed performance and ensured development and training needs of employees are met.
***Managing financial resources is defined as applicants must show evidence of managing and being accountable for a budget. This experience is defined as being responsible for sound financial planning, forecasting and reporting.
Asset experience:
AEX1 - Experience in leading the delivery of science or economic development activities, programs or services in the North.
AEX2 - Experience in working directly with First Nations, Métis, or Inuit organizations on scientific or economic development projects.
AEX3 - Experience working in a cross-cultural environment, specifically as it relates to Inuit Qaujimaningit (Inuit Culture and Values)
