• Researches and analyzes cases of violations and contraventions to Transport Canada’s transportation legislative and regulatory system
• Provides advice and/or recommendations to regional management as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Advocates the Minister’s position at review level cases before the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada (TATC) and provides operational expert support to the Multimodal Advisory & Appeals Unit and/or to Justice Canada
• Provides mentoring and on-the-job coaching to inspectors for cases presented before the TATC
• Provides guidance on statutes, regulations, administrative law, criminal law, procedural and evidentiary issues, and other policy issues to internal stakeholders, as they relate to the National Enforcement Program (NEP)
• Provides advice, support and recommendations to the regional management team and headquarters management team, when appropriate, on the handling of issues or problems affecting regional program delivery
• Integrates, promotes and supports governmental, departmental and NEP key priorities, commitments and initiatives across the organization
The initial intent is to staff one (1) position on a permanent basis. The results of this process may be used to staff similar positions within Transport Canada.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in law, public administration or social sciences
Experience writing documents that summarize legal, regulatory or technical issues
Experience reviewing non-compliance activities (e.g., conducting investigations, audits, or verification or validation activities, etc.), and providing guidance and advice to decision-makers on outcomes (e.g., administrative or penal outcomes, etc.)
Experience working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders
Graduation with a master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in law
Graduation with a doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in law
Certification or education in accident investigations, forensics or paralegal studies
Experience appearing before an administrative tribunal, or in civil or criminal venues
Experience preparing inspection, investigation or audit reports, and presenting analysis and information to peers and senior management
Experience practicing law
